One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
By Dale Wasserman based on the novel by Ken Kesey
February 1st - February 4th, 2012
Performed at Brentwood Theatre
Directed by Amy Clayton
McMurphy bursts into the State Mental Institution from the outside world representing freedom, life, and the power of the individual against a repressive establishment. His attempt at feigning mental illness to escape hard labour is futile against the notorious Nurse Ratched, the tyrannical head nurse who exercises near-total power over those in her care, including her subordinates. She will not hesitate to restrict her patient's access to medication, amenities and basic human necessities if it suits her needs. McMurphy's fun-loving and rebellious presence is a constant annoyance for her as neither threats, punishment nor shock therapy will stop him. Unfortunately (and unbeknownst to McMurphy) it is she who holds the key to his release...
